Born in 1945 in France’s Gascogne region, Christian de Laubadère graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bayonne until he left in 2003 for China where he was invited as an artist in residence. Christian immersed himself in Chinese culture with passion and with a fascination for people in their daily routine, along the streets, the old Chinese town, the flea market whether in the outskirts or in the countryside, he made his way thoughtfully absorbing all aspects of Chinese life. It was his fascination with this life that made him choose to set up his studio in Shanghai becoming a well-established member of the foreign artistic community. Over the 15 years he spent in China, Christian participated in solo and group exhibitions in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. He was designated as the artist to complete several projects for luxury brands (Bvlgari) and hotels such as The Setai in Miami, the St Regis in Lhassa, the Sukhotai in Shanghai to name just a few. He has been featured in magazines (AD, Elle Deco, Harper’s Bazaar, L’Officiel, World of Interiors..) and documentaries (Modern TV, CCTV..) Christian moved back to France in 2018.
