Human beings live in symbiosis with nature, possessing inherent "synaesthetic" capabilities. Liu Zhenchen regards art as a remedy and "prints" medicinal herbs and minerals all acting in synergy to create powerful artworks. For Quentin Derouet, his art was born from a red rose that produced a deep purple trace which oxidation toned down. The continuous transmutation of the color of the organic traces is a significant measure of the elapsing time frame and impermanence in his work. For both artists a transformed nature infused with an array of deep and multifaceted influences is at the core of their pictorial journey. In this time of pandemic, Liu Zhenchen and Quentin Derouet wish to offer the viewers an energy, alternatively soothing or invigorating, in a therapeutic visual experience and question the acceptance of a nature that fades and comes back in the never-ending circle that is life itself.
ArtCN is honored to present "Botanical Transmutations", a dual exhibition featuring the works on paper of artists Liu Zhenchen and Quentin Derouet.
