Liu Zhenchen, born in 1976, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University and the National High School of Art in Villa Arson, France. Zhenchen has received a Diplôme de 3e cycle with highest honors from Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains in 2007. Zhenchen's works have been prominently featured at the Grand and Petit Palais, Palais de Tokyo, Pompidou Center in Paris; also at Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid; Kunst Museum in Bonn; Museum of Contemporary Art in Marseille; New York Museum of Natural History; Nuit Blanche in Paris; Rencontres d’Arles; Transmediale in Berlin; and Ars Electronica Festival in Linz. His short films have been shortlisted at hundreds of global film events including the Lugano Film Festival, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, the Sao Paulo International Film Festival, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, and have received over thirty awards across multiple art platforms and film festivals worldwide.
Permanent collections of Zhenchen’s works are housed at national institutions including in Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou and Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. He currently lives and works between Paris, Shanghai and Hamburg.
