ArtCN is pleased to announce its return to the art scene with “Journey to the West”, a pop-up exhibition in Antwerp.
The exhibition borrows its title from the classic 16th century Chinese novel that recounts the pilgrimage of a Buddhist monk to the West in search of sacred texts. The tale explores the value of faith, the coexistence of different religions and the mutual reliance between people raising important questions on human nature through a raw representation of resilience and spiritual awakening.
In a broader sense, “Journey to the West” reflects on themes of dislocation, acculturation and transformative migration, experiences that are so relevant today.
On a personal level, “Journey to the West” marks a significant milestone: the first exhibition of ArtCN outside of China. It is about celebrating my own journey to the West and presenting the work from artists who have travelled with and accompanied me through the many years spent in Shanghai to family, friends, visitors, and collectors.
This group show features nine artists engaged in a continuous dialogue that touches upon universal themes such as culture and identity as they navigate the complexity of intercultural relationships and the different influences that interlace these experiences.
